For factories, there are mainly the following three methods to determine the material of tungsten carbide products; The first is spectral analysis, the second is chemical analysis, and the third is physical analysis. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages.
First, spectrometer.
The operation is relatively simple. Just "strike" the surface of the alloy with a spectrometer and its composition will appear. However, spectrometers have certain drawbacks. First, their cost is relatively high. A single spectrometer can cost hundreds of thousands or even millions of yuan. Secondly, spectrometers are more suitable for mineral exploration but cannot accurately analyze the composition of alloys.
Second, chemical analysis method.
Small samples can be crushed. For large samples, first cut off a small section by wire cutting and crush it into powder for testing. During this process, attention should be paid to the impurities produced by crushing. For instance, nickel will increase to a certain extent, and the manufacturer needs to make a conservative estimate. The content of cobalt, titanium, tungsten and other parameters in the crushed powder can be measured by combining it with chemical analysis methods. Relatively more accurate. The difference has been determined by a few ten-thousandths.
Third, physical analysis method.
If cobalt magnets are used to determine the cobalt content, tungsten-cobalt or tungsten-cobalt-titanium magnets can be used to determine the approximate range of particles (fine, medium, and coarse). In addition, hardness metallographic testing can be conducted (to determine grain size, product defects, carburization, decarburization, etc.). From this, infer the range value of the grade.
